On the latest episode of "Criminal Minds," an unsub went to incredible lengths to exact revenge.

David Sanders played the role of a sadistic unsub who lobotomizes two men and and tortures his own sister to get revenge on his father, who always favored his smarter sister. But when he's caught, as expected, his father only looks at his son with a mix of horror and disappointment.

In the episode, the new section chief, Matt Cruz, is introduced, who is played by Esai Morales. He and JJ (A.J. Cook) run into each other jogging, and you hear the the whisperings of a secret as JJ says that they shouldn't be meeting in such a way.

The BAU team tries to get a feel for how to approach their new boss; Morgan (Shemar Moore) is straightforward, Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) tries to ease him into the group and JJ is still on edge.

The mysterious relationship between Cruz and JJ makes it clear the two have a past together, which JJ is afraid to bring up.

A.J. Cook told TVLine that fans are supposed to be puzzled about the nature of JJ and Cruz's connection. "People are going to be a little confused as to what exactly their relationship is - and the great thing about it is we really don't answer any questions," Cook said. "We just let it hang there, for a while. But I hope people stick with it, because it's a beautiful thing."

TVLine also reported that around midseason, viewers will meet Blake's (Jeanne Tripplehorn) police detective brother as well as her father, who is a retired police captain. They call on her when their hometown is blighted with multiple murders.

On the next "Criminal Minds," called "Route 66," Hotch's injury related to his stabbing by the reaper may endanger his life. Hotch will also experience visions of his late wife, Haley, and his rival, Foyet. Meanwhile, the BAU team will search for a missing teenager, and will investigate the teen's estranged father as a possible suspect in the disappearance."

Watch the promo for "Route 66," which airs Wednesday, Oct. 23rd at 8pm on CBS.
