It was recently confirmed that a "Good Wife" character has been cut from an anticipated storyline, but she may not be gone from the series forever.
Kalinda's (Archie Panjabi) love interest, played by Juliet Rylance, was cut from "The Good Wife's" September 29 premiere due to an "over-abundance of caution" after last season's heavily criticized Nick plot, executive producer Robert King told TVLine.
"We didn't have the time in the episode to build up the chemistry [between the pair], so we put a pause on [the storyline]," he told a group of reporters following a screening of the series' uber-dramatic October 27 episode. "We just didn't want to make a mistake again."
Yet, King hinted that the possible romantic storyline is not completely dead-on-arrival. "We're putting a pause on it - it's not going away," he promised. "Whatever news reports that say it's going away it's not at all."
However, Rylance's hectic schedule is an obstacle to filming. The actress is now committed to starring in Cinemax's 10-episode Steven Soderbergh drama "The Knick." The show has since gone on, sans Rylance. On the latest episode of "The Good Wife," Diane threw Will under the proverbial bus, and Will tried, but ultimately failed to push Diane out of the firm.
On last Sunday's episode, "A Precious Commodity," Alicia (Julianna Margulies) works on a case in which a couple is having a child via a surrogate, but the baby has an ailment that guarantees that it will die a few days after its birth. The couple wants to terminate the pregnancy, but the surrogate refuses. The couple then fires Alicia for not forcing the surrogate to terminate the ill-fated pregnancy. The couple then proceeds to sue the surrogate. The judge rules that the surrogate has control over the body, and cannot be forced to terminate the pregnancy.
Later, Alicia goes to a secret meeting with her new firm to discuss leaving Lockart/Gardner, which they decide will be in two weeks.
Will also holds a meeting to compose an attractive exit package for Diane to entice her to leave the firm. Diane rejects the package, so Will asks Alicia if she would like to take Diane's place. Alicia decides to consider the offer, to Cary's (Matt Czuchry) chagrin. Nevertheless, after seeing how Will dealt with Diane, Alicia tells Cary that if they still want to strike out on their own with a new firm, they have to do it very soon.
On the next episode, "Outside the Bubble," the firm is being sued for being a hostile workplace. There will also be a great deal of contentious office politics as Diane's Supreme Court Candidacy puts her at odds with Will.
The promo also shows a sneak preview of the anticipated October 27 episode, which is being called the "episode that will change everything." In the preview, Will is seen knocking everything off Alicia's desk in a rage. He then sternly says, "Get out of here, Alicia."
Watch "Outside the Bubble" on Sunday, October 20 at 9 p.m. on CBS.
