Bosnia and Herzegovina will look to book its first ever ticket to the World Cup when it takes on Lithuania on Tuesday.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently in a deadlock race with Greece for first place in Group G but holds a significant edge in the goal differential category. While the Greeks have managed a solid +6 goal differential through night matches, Bosnia and Herzegovina has scored 23 more goals than it has conceded. The team took down Liechtenstein 8-1 in its first game and managed a 5-0 win over Latvia in June 2013. Five of its seven wins have come by at least three or more goals. A win on Tuesday would secure a spot unless Greece somehow managed to win by 17 or more goals against Liechtenstein; the likeliness of that outcome is marginal at best.
"We're going to win and secure a direct ticket to Brazil. We have the strength and the quality. We will attack, as against Liechtenstein, without calculation but with great caution in defence," said Bosnia and Herzegovina Coach Safet Sušić, according to UEFA. "We need to know that every lost ball can cost us dearly. However, we have our fans to help us succeed."
Bosnia and Herzegovina defeated Lithuania 3-0 in the first match between these two teams. According to UEFA, "It is estimated that 80 percent of the expected 10,000-odd crowd will be backing [Bosnia's] Edin Džeko and Co. Most of the travelling army will be coming from the nearby Scandinavian countries, and others from as far afield as the United States."
Prediction: Bosnia and Herzegovina is undoubtedly the favorite here and will likely play with a tremendous amount of intensity and drive. Expect a 5-0 win to punctuate the team's first ever World Cup qualification.
Start Time: Kick-off starts at 2 p.m. EST
