Rolando Villazon has announced his upcoming CD.
On Monday, Oct. 14, the Mexican tenor posted a picture for the cover of his new album "Mozart Concert Arias" on Facebook. Along with the picture, the tenor wrote, "Thrilled to announce new Mozart Concert Arias album - a collection of rarely recorded concert arias for tenor written by the genius composer, recorded with Antonio Pappano and the London Symphony Orchestra. The new recording will be released internationally in January 2014 by Deutsche Grammophon."
However, Villazon did not announce what arias or pieces will be featured on the album.
The album is a follow up to his acclaimed and Echo award-winning "Verdi" CD. Villazon recently recorded a track for Anna Netrebko's latest CD. He also celebrated Verdi's bicentennial with a set of concerts dedicated to the composer. The singer next goes to Berlin where he will perform Don Ottavio in Mozart's "Don Giovanni." He will later make his highly anticipated return to the Metropolitan Opera where he will perform Lenski in Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin." In 2014 he will return to the Vienna State Opera for Lenski and Don Ottavio. He will also make is role debut as Ferrando in "Mozart's "Cosi Fan Tutte" at the Teatro alla Scala. In July he will return to Baden Baden where he will record Belmonte in Mozart's "Die Entfuehrung aus dem Serail."
Villazon is an exclusive artist of Deustche Grammophon. He also recorded five albums with the companies including "Cielo e Mar" and "Duets" with Netrebko. He has also recorded five complete operas including Massenet's "Werther" and Verdi's "La Traviata."
