Syria and Singapore will face off in a crucial AFC Asian Cup qualifier Tuesday.
The two sides are among the worst in Group A. Singapore has not picked up a single point thus far in two matches while Syria only has one point.
Singapore started its campaign with a brutal 4-0 loss against Jordan. Jordan got goals from Abdallah Deeb, Bani Attiah, and Ahmad Hayel. In its second game, Singapore lost 2-0 against Oman. Qasim Said and Eid Al-Farsi provided the tallies for Oman in that game.
Syria's campaign has not gone much better. The team lost 1-0 against Oman in its opener thanks to a goal from Al-Muqbali. The second game featured a Syrian goal from Burhan Sahyouni in the 49th minute; however, Jordan's Mossab Al-Laham evened the score at the 57 minute mark and forced Syria to drop two crucial points at home.
This will be the second match between the two sides in each nation's history. The two teams faced off in the Merdeka Tournament back on July 25, 1978; Singapore came out on top in a 4-1 victory.
Syria enters the game as the favorite but will need to overcome Singapore's raucous home crowd. This game is crucial for both sides as the loser would need to win three straight to have any hopes of a third or second place finish.
Prediction: Syria wins 1-0.
