San Marino will look for its first win of the World Cup qualifiers when it takes on Moldova on Friday.
Neither side has any chance of qualifying for the big tournament next summer. San Marino sits in last place with eight losses, one goal scored and 43 conceded.
The team opened its campaign with a 6-0 loss against Montenegro. In its second game, San Marino was torched 5-0 by England; Wayne Rooney scored twice in that match for the Three Lions. The team managed respectably by losing 2-0 against Moldova in October 2012 but was then defeated 3-0 in Montenegro the following month. An 8-0 loss against England in March 2013 essentially eliminated them from contention and brought them to their lowest point of the tournament. A 5-0 loss in Poland followed before San Marino endured an embarrassing 9-0 loss in the Ukraine; that game featured goals from eight different players.
Moldova has fared better but only has five points in eight games. The team lost 5-0 against England in its opener before enduring a 2-0 defeat against Poland. The third game was a surprising 0-0 draw with Ukraine at home and the team then defeated San Marino 2-0. However, the luck would be short-lived as Moldova lost 1-0 against Montenegro in its ensuing qualifier. Another loss to the Ukraine was followed by a draw with Poland; unfortunately the team lost 4-0 against England in its latest qualifier.
Predictions: Moldova destroys San Marino 4-0.
