Oh the college days. They were a time to meet new people, explore new horizons, receive a higher education that will propel your career, and yes, a time to party. No matter how hard universities strive to regulate their students’ social behavior, college and partying will always be synonymous. They’re like peanut butter and jelly. For most students, it’s the first time they’ve lived outside the hawk-like eyes of their parents. With a new sense of freedom, access to any substance they desire and teenage hormones, they’re unstoppable.

What’s disconcerting, however, is the increasing trend of glorified partying. It’s everywhere in mainstream media. As a result, each generation tries to outdo its predecessor with even more outrageous antics. It’s all good and fun until someone gets seriously hurt, which is a growing issue, or perhaps even worse, their social perception and ideals are completely skewed.

Although it might not sound as dire of a circumstance, a recent letter from a frat president at Georgia Tech suggests otherwise. The email shared with the members of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity was quickly condemned Monday as it continued to run rampant online. The email, with the subject line “Luring your Rapebait,” served as a how-to list to get girls drunk and bring them home.

The email laid out the “7 E’s of Hooking Up,” which include Encounter, Engage, Escalate, Erection, Excavate, Ejaculation, and Expunge, which instructs the brothers to kick the girls out of their rooms upon completion. You can read the full email here at Total Frat Move.

Georgia Tech learned of the email a couple weeks back. The investigation is still ongoing, but in the interim, the Georgia Tech chapter has suspended the author.

"[The] Office of Student Integrity is currently engaged in an investigation to determine the facts," a university statement said. "Phi Kappa Tau's national office, as well as Tech's student-led Interfraternity Council, are also reviewing the matter to determine whether to take any independent action. The Institute does not condone this type of behavior and continues to provide resources and education designed to create a supportive campus environment for all students, even those who exercise extremely poor judgment."

As the investigation moves forward, we can only hope that the repercussions will deter students from such lewd behavior and no longer stress the ‘importance’ of getting laid. Wistful thinking, but necessary nonetheless.
