While we gear up for holiday season, let’s take some time to think on those less fortunate. We shouldn’t think in the traditional sense, but rather outside the box. Instead of dwelling on those without food or shelter, send love and prayer to those stuck behind prison bars, surrounded by cold concrete walls rather than the warmth of their loved ones. It may seem backwards, but prisoners need sympathy as well from time to time.

While we put on our Dracula costumes and baste giant turkeys, the inmates from Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black” prepare for a followup season that change the way you look at locked up criminals. There is room for sympathy and compassion in those tiny cramped cells. Each prisoner has their own story, one that shows humanity behind their empty prison eyes, stories that “Orange Is the New Black” hopes to unveil to the world.

One story in particular will be explored in depth in the upcoming second season. The prison mother, aka Red, has her own issues after losing control of her kitchen, but as her plot for revenge unfolds, fans will learn more about her origins and the giant heart behind her stern demeanor.

"She lost the kitchen, but does Red strike you as the kind of person who would just let her kitchen go? So what do you think Season 2 is going to be about? Reclamation! Vindication!" said Kate Mulgrew, noting that only Kohan and the writing staff know what's truly in store for Red, TV Guide reports.

However, Mulgrew did indulge in the little that she does know. "I just know that they weren't putting candy bars in my deep freeze, if you know what I mean," Mulgrew said. She also revealed that the absence of her husband during visiting hours is a direct product of her dealings with the Russians. "Well, the Russians weren't happy, but my husband is alive. Don't worry.”

“Orange Is the New Black” will return to Netflix in 2014.
