On October 7, the Government of Mexico launched a smartphone application that allows Mexicans living in the United States to easily contact their consulate and file paperwork easily and quickly.

According to Univisión, the Ministry of Foreign Relations (SRE) of Mexico presented the application called "MiConsulMex" on in San Antonio, Texas, through the sub secretary for North America, Sergio Alcocer and the Ambassador of Mexico in the United States, Eduardo Medina Mora.

The same source indicates that the SRE pointed out that the application has the purpose of facilitating access to information, services, protection, assistance and consular activities for Mexicans in the United States.

The free application is available for smartphones and other devices operating on iOS and Android, according to news website Sipse.com.

It's a measure that could benefit a great number of Mexicans in the United States who access the Internet regularly from their telephones.

According to a recent study from the Pew Hispanic Center, quoted by Univisión, 76% of Hispanic Internet users go online from their phones, and Mexican authorities took this data into account to develop a tool that will connect its citizens in the United States to Mexican consulates.
