The Vancouver Canucks will look to shut down the red-hot San Jose Sharks Thursday.
No team is better than the Sharks at the moment. The team has won three games this season in increasingly dominating function. The team opened the season with a 4-1 win over Vancouver before taking down Phoenix by the same score. In its most recent game, San Jose destroyed the New York Rangers 9-2. Rookie Tomas Hertl finished the game with four goals.
"It's crazy," said Hertl, according to San Jose's official website. "This is a dream. Four goals. I never [scored four] in the Czech League, I never had three. In the NHL, it's crazy."
"That was special," added Sharks captain Joe Thornton. "You don't see that too often. That was very, very special. ... He likes to score goals, and you can see that by his celebrations. He loves to put pucks in the back of the net, and as his teammates it's fun to watch him put pucks in the back of the net. It's been fun to watch in the first three games."
The Canucks are coming off a 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils in a game that pitted long-time goaltending duo Roberto Luongo and Corey Schneider against each other. Schneider was traded to New Jersey this past summer during the NHL Draft.
"Obviously, we spent many years together, so it was nice to battle it out head-to-head," Luongo said, according to NHL.com. "Somebody has to win, somebody has to lose. He was able to get a point for his team. He played extremely well. He was a big reason why they got it to overtime."
Prediction: San Jose has been excellent at home but has yet to be tested on the road. Look for Vancouver to put up a solid 3-1 win at home.
