Fight fans are still eager to see another chapter in one of the best rivalries in boxing, but for Mexican warrior Juan Manuel Marquez, his rivalry with Manny Pacquiao is already closed.
During his media day in Los Angeles for his upcoming fight with Timothy Bradley, Marquez was informed that a win coupled with a Pacquiao victory over Brandon Rios in their November showdown would strengthen the call for a fifth bout.
However, when asked if he is still willing to trade blows with his nemesis, Marquez strongly ststed that the fifth fight against Pacquiao doesn't interest him anymore.
"I don't know what's going to happen. I'm fighting this Saturday and Pacquiao will fight in November. I don't know what'll happen. I need to wait and see how things turn out. I think the chapter with Pacquiao is closed. I think so. The fifth fight doesn't interest me," Marquez said as reported by Boxingscene.
The 40-year-old Mexican scored a scintillating sixth-round knockout in their fourth fight in December and Marquez wants to keep the memory of that victory in the minds of fight fans before he finally hangs up his boxing gloves.
Marquez added the he could have called for a fifth showdown and earn more money had he won the match by a close decision, but the knockout win is enough for him to prove who the better fighter is.
"The money is important in life but the most important for me is honor and pride and for everyone to know what happened in the fourth fight. I want to keep that great moment for all my life," Marquez said. "I want to say something that's the most important to me. If I won the fight with a close decision, I would give the fifth fight. I would sign the contract right after the fight. But I won by knockout with a great victory for me so I don't sign the contract."
