Green leaves slowly drip to shades of yellow and red. The landscape ignites. It’s beautiful. There’s no denying that it’s one of nature’s greatest and most stunning accomplishments. But beware, it’s beauty is no more than a mask for the creatures that lurk in the autumn shadows. Ghouls, witches and most terrifying of all, zombies, creep their way into our daily lives and haunt our dreams, and this weekend, it will reach its pinnacle.

Sunday marks the return of the hit series “The Walking Dead.” Zombie lovers rejoice, but proceed with the caution. The upcoming season will bring more flesh eating terror and walker mania than ever before. There will be more zombies, more danger and, of course, more death. Fall has arrived, and now so have the nightmares. So in order to prepare yourself for the zombie onslaught, here are a few details on the approaching season for fans to gnaw on.

For starters, Steven Yeun will return as the token badass, a new role for his character Glenn to embrace. Not only will fans see the new Glenn spring into action in the premiere episode, but the actor also opened up to TVLine about his relationship with Maggie and his revenge against The Governor.

“At this point, there is a semblance of peace and there is a little bit of society that’s been built out. You can either go the way of saying, ‘Well, look at what we’ve built. We’re fine. We’ll be fine forever.’ Or you can be Glenn, which is a little bit more cautious,” Yeun said. “He’s wary because out of [everyone], he’s been through quite a bit of crap. He always gets captured or beaten up. So he knows that when things are going well for a while, something’s bound to go wrong.”

“This world is so savage and brutal that you don’t know what’s going to happen the next day, [so you need] to hold onto what you have every day and cherish it,” he added.

As for Glenn and Maggie, “They’re in a great place,” Yeun said. “They just have different perspectives on how to continue on. The resounding theme among everybody is that you need another person — or people — to continue on. I think that’s something that we will revisit over the course of the season.”

Finally, the actor touched upon his quest to bring down The Governor. “Glenn definitely does not look upon the governor with kind eyes. I don’t think he’s overcome that. He has really taken some lessons from Hershel that vengeance is vengeance, but [you need] to be there for the people that you love.”

“The Walking Dead” returns to AMC this Sunday, October 13.
