The President of Argentina, Cristina Fernández, will have to rest for a month owing to a cerebral injury diagnosed last Saturday, October 5.

Due to the subdural hematoma diagnosed by her doctor on Saturday, the President of Argentina will have to abandon her duties for an important period of time during which Congress elections will take place this coming October 27, informed CNN.

According to the same source, the spokesman for the Argentinian President, Alfredo Scoccimarro points out that Fernández will suspend all her activities for a month as a result of the injury.

Despite this, a government source quoted by Europa Press assured that the President will continue to make government decisions, and that Vice-President Amado Boudou will only carry out a ceremonial role.

"Rest is not disconnection. Travels, planes, public acts are not advisable for her blood, but she will be on top of issues from her home", the anonymous source assured, quoted Europa Press on its website.

Owing to the medical leave, the delegation of power in Argentina was made effective on Monday.

This is not the first time President Fernández has health problems during her term, in January 2012, 60-year-old Fernández underwent surgery to remove her thyroid, after medics detected papillary carcinoma, reports CNN.

In August 2013, the Argentinian President suffered from head trauma. During routine check-ups, medics performed a CT scan, but didn't find any symptoms of the subdural hematoma she was diagnosed with this Saturday.

Diagnosed mostly in people over 60, a subdural hematoma is a clotting on the brain's surface, underneath its external layer, usually caused by trauma to the brain which can cause veins in the brain to break and blood might clot, reported CNN.
