Lorde, the young singer whose hit "Royals" is No. 1 on the pop charts, is creating controversy with her dig at pop singer Selena Gomez.

The  16-year-old New Zealand singer said that she is tired of suggestive lyrics, such as those in Gomez's hit, "Come and Get It," because she is is fed up with the over-sexualization of women.

According to the Seattle Post Intelligencer, Lorde said, "I love pop music on a sonic level. But I'm a feminist and the theme of her song [Come & Get It] is, 'When you're ready come and get it from me'."

The singer, who has been praised by Elton John, was candid with her opinion of the song, saying, "I'm sick of women being portrayed this way."

Gomez may not be aware of Lorde's opinion of her, because she recently performed a cover of her single "Royals" during her Stars Dance tour. The former Disney star stirred up controversy earlier this year when she performed "Come and Get It" in a scant sari-inspired outfit with a bindi at the Billboard Awards, which later elicited backlash from the Hindu community.

Lorde, who real name is Ella Yelich-O'Connor, became the youngest performer in 26 years to snag the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The last time a 16-year-old took the number one spot on the Hot 100 was when Tiffany's "Could've Been" took the prize the week of February 6, 1988. Lorde is also the first woman to take the top spot since Carly Rae Jespen's "Call Me Maybe" reigned for nine weeks last summer.

She also became the first solo artist from New Zealand to have a number one song in the U.S. Her song bumped Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" from the top spot, where it stayed for two weeks. Billboard has called the success of "Royals" "stunning."

"It feels like a combination of my birthday, Christmas and washing my hair after a month of not doing so," Lorde told Billboard after hearing that the track hit No.1. "[I'm] very, very grateful for everyone's love and kind words."

The outspoken teen said that she turned down a lucrative gig opening for Katy Perry. She also gave a very scathing pseudo-compliment to Taylor Swift. She said, "Taylor Swift is so flawless, and so unattainable, and I don't think it's breeding anything good in young girls. 'I'm never going to be like Taylor Swift, why can't I be as pretty as Lorde?' That's f---ing bullshit."

Lorde was able to attain success, even without opening for Katy Perry, because she was discovered at only 12-years-old when an A&R scout saw her singing in a video at her school talent show. By 13, the agent signed her to Universal and, at the age of 14, she began working with the label's songwriters.

She got her big break when she was called in at the last minute to replace singer Frank Ocean at the Australian music festival, Splendour in the Grass. Lorde then got her American TV debut on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," which helped boost her visibility.

Lorde debuted her first full-length album, "Pure Heroine," on September 30, and it set for a No. 3 launch on the Billboard 200.

Lorde is also covering Tears for Fears' popular song "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" on the "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" movie soundtrack.

"Culturally, Lorde is hitting a chord," said music mogul Jason Flom, who signed her on Lava Records. "People are hungry for something different."
