The Philadelphia Flyers and Carolina Hurricanes will look to pull off their first victories of the season when the meet on Sunday.
Both teams are off to tough starts this season and currently sit at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division almost one week into the season.
The Flyers opened their season on Wednesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs and lost 3-1. On Saturday the team went to Montreal to visit the Canadiens and was destroyed 4-1. The Flyers were shorthanded nine times throughout the game and paid for it twice.
"It's tough to score when you're in the box," Flyers' Max Talbot said, according to NHL.com. "I think tonight you've got to look at the discipline and it was a factor. We started playing with a little bit of tempo and momentum and then we'd get a two-minute [penalty], so we've got to clean that up. I think that's the main thing right now."
The Hurricanes blew a 2-0 lead in their opener and wound up losing 3-2 against the Detroit Red Wings. The loss was especially difficult because the club was just 16.4 seconds away from a victory.
Despite the loss, the team remains upbeat about its chances moving forward and will look to improve as the year progresses.
"We looked at all the positives last night to build on," head coach Kirk Muller said, according to the Hurricanes' official website. "Five-on-five, you take away the four-on-four and six-on-five, and we gave up one goal. So I thought in five-on-five hockey, we competed hard and played well. Lots of positive stuff to keep building on."
Prediction: Carolina wins 3-2.
