The Toronto Maple Leafs will look to continue their strong start to the NHL season when they take on the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday.

Toronto started its season with a decisive 4-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. Toronto's James Van Riemsdyk scored the first goal of the season just 8:01 into the first period on the powerplay. Montreal tied the game and took the lead before the period came to an end. However, Toronto Captain Dion Phaneuf tied the game earlier in the second period before Tyler Bozak broke away shorthanded late in the period to give his team a 3-2 lead. Just 5:10 into the third period Mason Raymond gave the team a definitive lead that it would never relinquish.

Philadelphia will look to bounce back from a disappointing 2012-13 season in which it failed to make the playoffs. One of the reasons for the poor performance was the inconsistent goaltending from Ilya Bryzgalov. The netminder was brought out in the summer and the team snagged Ray Emery to work with Steve Mason. One of the two goalies is expected to eventually win the job, but both netminders are adamant about working together in tandem.

"Everybody wants to put [their] spin on it," Mason said, according to the Flyers' official website. "But, [Emery] and myself, our job is just to provide real solid goaltending for this team this season and push each other in practice to be better. I'm not out there to battle Ray or anything like that, I'm just trying to get better in my own, individual way, and if he's out there pushing me, that's a good thing."

"It's definitely a tandem," Emery agreed. "We're excited to work together. We both want to be in the net, but we both want each other to do well, too. However that sorts itself out, we'll be fine with it as long as the team has success."
