The Edmonton Oilers will look to get their season started off on the right foot when they take on the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night.

The Oilers recently announced that summer acquisition Andrew Ference would be the team's next captain.

"To know that I'm able to come back to my hometown and be so extremely proud to pull on the jersey, letter or not, I know how fortunate I am to have that kind of path in a career like this," said Ference, according to NHL.com."It really is an ultimate privilege and honor to just have that jersey on in the first place."

"Andrew is everything you look for in a captain," added Edmonton Coach Dallas Eakins. "You start rattling off words like, compete, honest, commitment, a guy that can communicate. Everything you talk about a leader, that's what this young man is. The biggest thing for me, is his ability to unite this organization. He's the most important person in this organization."

The Oilers are coming off a season in which they finished third in the now defunct Northwest division; it was the first time since the 2008-09 season that the Oilers did not finish in last place in the division.

The Winnipeg Jets are looking to improve upon a season in which the team finished just four points out of a playoff spot.

Prediction: The Oilers are seen as potential contenders this season and will prove their worth in a 4-2 win over Winnipeg.

Start Time: 10 p.m. EST
