September and October mark the return of television’s biggest and baddest show. The season premieres of TV’s top dogs scour the first weeks of autumn, but that doesn’t mean that the tap runs dry after the leaves turn brown and fall to the frozen earth floor. “Justified” will return for its fifth season in January, and as fans prepare for its big return, a roundup of recent news from production helps fans with an early glimpse of what’s on the horizon.
For starters, Joelle Carter’s Ava may be stuck behind bars longer than originally anticipated. According to TVLine, Season 5 will, in fact, have a very “Orange Is the New Black” feel to it. So can we expect codependent lesbian relationships that rock the fabric of an upstate female penitentiary? Probably not, but fans should expect to see Ava prepare for the long haul deep within prison walls.
Second, Natalie Zea’s pregnant Winona will return for Season 5, but in an unknown capacity. However, she won’t be rocking a baby bump, but in fact a baby itself. That’s right. Winona could be a mother before fans anticipated. Babies and prison. What great themes for a major network program.
Finally, Season 5 will introduce the white trash Florida-based Crowe crime family, led by the ruthless and handsome Dale. On the books, the Crowes run a gator farm, but as “Justified” fans should expect, their real dealings involve drugs and murder. Alongside Dale are his sister Wendy, the public face of the family, and his younger brother Danny, a romantic sociopath, an interesting dynamic that should make for an exciting season.
Enjoy the onslaught of fall television, but don’t be dismayed once the cool breeze turns into bitter winds. “Justified” returns to FX in January.
