Mexican singer Alejandro Fernández has announced that he will aid the victims of the strong storms caused by hurricanes Manuel and Ingrid which have affected 22 states in Mexico, causing severe damages mainly in Guerrero, Veracruz and Tamaulipas.
According to People en Español, the singer told Mexican journalist Joaquín López Doriga, anchor of Televisa's "El Noticiero", that he would donate 1 peso (worth eight cents in U.S. currency) for every follower of his Twitter account.
Likewise, Fernández published a message on Twitter which reads: "I will donate 1 peso for every follower on Twitter #todospodemosayudar #mexicounido. Many families need our help", confirmed People.
So far, the singer has over 2,400,00 followers, meaning that Fernández would donate $188,000, and it's expected that figure will rise in the next few hours.
The Mexican singer joins a growing list of celebrities supporting the victims of hurricanes Manuel and Ingrid.
Fernández will be one of the singers invited to contribute with songs in the album titled "Voces por México", the sales of which will be donated to the Red Cross to aid victims of the storms in Mexico.
Other singers that support the initiative are: Thalía, Alejandra Guzmán, Camila, Ana Gabriel, Aleks Syntek, Natalia Lafourcade, OV7, Cristian Castro, Julieta Venegas and Noel Schajris, among others.
