On Sept. 24 Mozart's "Cosi Fan Tutte" will open at the Metropolitan Opera.

The opera, written by Lorenzo da Ponte, tells the story of two young couples who are about to get married. However, their relationship changes when the men pretend they are sent to war in order to disguise themselves as Albanians.

Isabel Leonard reprises her role as Dorabella, while Danielle De Niese reprises her role as Despina. The two singers are joined by rising star soprano Susanna Phillips who will sing Fiordiligi, and Mozart specialist tenor Matthew Polenzani who will reprise his interpretation of Ferrando. Baritone Rodion Pogossov will sing the role of Gugliemo, while Maurizio Muraro will portray Don Alfonso.

The production also marks the return of music director James Levine. Levine last conducted Wagner's "Die Walkure" in 2011 before taking a break to get back surgery. Levine recently led the Met Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, but the "Cosi Fan Tutte" performances will be his first performances on the Met stage. Levine is scheduled to return to the Met for performances of Verdi's "Falstaff" and Berg's "Wozzeck."

The current production of "Cosi Fan Tutte" was last performed in 2010. The production was staged by Lesly Koenig with costumes by Michael Yeargan, and made its premiere in 1996.

"Cosi Fan Tutte" will be performed four times in the fall season and later in April when it will be broadcast live in HD in movie theaters all around the world.
