iPhone 5s Sales: First Weekend Sales for Apple Inc.'s iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s Smartphones Hit 'Record-Breaking' 9 Million Units [Videos]

Apple has revealed the Cupertino-based organization sold nine million units of their latest iPhone smartphones.

Apple announced the "record-breaking" figure just three days after the worldwide release date of the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s.

"This is our best iPhone launch yet-more than nine million new iPhones sold-a new record for first weekend sales," said Apple CEO Tim Cook, in a prepared statement. "The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we've sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly."

Cook, however, did not breakdown the sales figures for iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s, respectively.

The sales figure of nine million units surpasses analysts' projections made prior to the devices' launch.

As Latinos Post reported, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster estimated Apple to sell five million to six million units of the new iPhones.

Munster added that the Cupertino-based organization would sell roughly 2.5 million units of the iPhone 5s while the iPhone 5c could reach three million units. The three million units for the iPhone 5c, however, include one million units based on its pre-orders.

BTIG Wireless Analyst Walter Piecyk tweeted at least six million units of the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s would be sold during the opening weekend while KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimated six to eight million iPhones will be sold.

To put figures into perspective, the iPhone 5's opening weekend in September 2012 resulted in five million units sold, although it was below the estimates of 10 million units.

Cook added, "We appreciate everyone's patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone."

The iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s launched on Sept. 20 across Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, United Kingdom, and United States.
