It seems that Gwyneth Paltrow will not appear in the upcoming "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
According to numerous reports, the actress has not been asked to portray the role of Pepper Potts in the upcoming film.
"What is it called? Age of Ultron. Okay, well, no, I don't think [I'll be in it]. I haven't heard any...my phone has not rung for Avengers 2," she said, according to Digital Spy.
This development is rather surprising considering the actress had a brief appearance in the original "Avengers" and has been in every "Iron Man" movie to date. Her absence could suggest a few things about the direction of the film.
At the end of "Iron Man 3" (which is supposedly set before "Avengers: Age of Ultron") Stark gives up being Iron Man to live a normal life with Potts. Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) has been confirmed for the new movie and director Joss Whedon has stated that he will not make the movie without him as the superhero. What this means is that there is a chance that Stark has gone against his life with Potts to don the armor once more.
Potts was never particularly happy about Stark being Iron Man in the more recent sequels because she was scared for his life and he never dedicated any time to her. If he decided to go back to being the hero, is there a chance that the romance between the two has come to an end?
Of course, this could also confirm that the story will not be set in California, which is where Stark lives. The first "Avengers" took place primarily in a fictional New York and it is more than likely that the group of superheroes is headed to another location for their upcoming adventure.
There has not been any confirmation on either of these story points, but Paltrow's admission is surprising, considering that she is such an integral part of Iron Man's life.
