This weekend "Prisoners" will be released nationwide.
The film, starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, tells the story of two girls who are abducted. When the police are unable to solve the mystery of the missing girls, Keller Dover, one of the girl's fathers, takes matters into his own hands.
The movie opened at the Telluride and Toronto Film Festivals where it was well received. The film even won the runner-up prize at Toronto where it also garnered Oscar buzz for Jackman.
The film currently holds an 82 percent aggregate score on Rotten Tomatoes with most critics giving the movie favorable reviews. Joe Morgenstern of the Wall Street wrote, "In addition to the skin-crawling camera moves and the understated dread that bolsters the surface tensions of 'Prisoners' there is a fascinating actor's duel going on."
Peter Travers of the Rolling Stone gave the movie three and a half stars out of four and stated, "Director Denis Villeneuve's work with the exemplary actors results in a film of startling impact, packed with twists you don't see coming. You can't shake it."
The New York Tines' A.O Scott also liked the film: "It absorbs and controls your attention with such assurance that you hold your breath for fear of distracting the people on screen, exhaling in relief or amazement at each new revelation."
Latinos Post called it a "powerful and engrossing film that is among the best of 2013."
"Prisoners" was directed by Denis Villeneuve and also stars Maria Bello, Viola Davis, Terrence Howard, Paul Dano and Melissa Leo. Warner Bros. will release the movie in 3,260 theaters. The movie is rated R for disturbing violent content including torture, and language throughout.
