Relationships are built to endure. There are always obstacles. Threats constantly lurk around every corner. There are emotional hurdles as well as outside forces that wedge their way between the two pivotal pieces. A pawn between a king and queen. They can nestle in, slowly chipping away at the foundation of any good relationship if their heart so desires. As for Beckett and Castle from the show “Castle,” the upcoming season is chock full of pawns as they tread along their teetering relationship.
In the wake of last season’s proposal, Beckett has to make several major life choices. One, she has to respond to Castle’s looming question, and two, she has to either stay in New York or pursue a new and alluring opportunity in D.C. In order to sway her away from New York, and thus away from Castle, an agent from the D.C. comes up to New York to coddle the vulnerable Beckett. But as Lisa Edelstein, who plays the D.C. agent Rachel McCord, tells fans, her character is not actively scheming to tear the two apart.
“McCord views Castle as a threat to Beckett. He is hampering her potential,” Edelstein told TV Guide. “[However], she’s not an enemy of Castle’s. She gets who he is, but she also knows what her job is… McCord has made mistakes of her own, and that’s why she feels qualified to help Beckett avoid doing the same thing.”
If Beckett does take the job in D.C., that also doesn’t mean the end of her relationship with Castle. They’re adults. They can make work. And as TVLine reports, she’ll only stay in D.C. for two to five episode before returning to New York. That is, of course, if she does take the job. Only time will tell.
“Castle” returns to ABC September 23.
