Just when you thought fall couldn’t get any creepier, the brand new series “Sleepy Hollow” made its television debut Monday night, leaving fans tossing and turning all night from ghoulish nightmares. But while their sleep schedule may have taken a hit, they approved. The show was a hit. It looks like “Sleepy Hollow” is here to stay. Get out your night lights.
According to Entertainment Weekly, “Sleepy Hollow” scored 10 million viewers and a 3.4 rating among adults 18-49. That’s 127 percent better than last fall’s disastrous “The Mob Doctor” premiere. In fact, this is Fox’s highest-rated fall drama premiere in six years. “Sleepy Hollow” also significantly built upon its lead in, the return of “Bones,” which was down slightly from last year. For those of you who missed it, this should help you get up to speed.
The show picks up in the midst of a Revolutionary War battle in 1781 with Ichabod Crane as he comes face-to-face with a massive masked horseman and shoots him down. The horseman continues to attack until Ichabod manages to behead him, but not without suffering a serious wound himself. He then wakes to 200 years in the future with a head full of bad memories and looming suspicion of lurking evil.
Meanwhile, in the wake of an increased number of beheadings in Sleepy Hollow, local cop Abbie Mills is introduced as she’s a week away from transferring out of town without any clear motive. Before she can leave, however, Ichabod and Abbie both find themselves against a hellish new foe, one that executive producer Alex Kurtzman says is "going to be one of the driving questions of the first season." The producers call the horned monster "The Blurry Man," and say that he is responsible for unleashing the Headless Horseman.
For those who want more right away, you’re in luck. Although it’s not much, TVLine reports that fans have not seen the last of John Cho’s Andy, despite his death in the premiere episode. Things just keep getting weirder in Sleepy Hollow.
