Stylish AMC series "Mad Men" is giving fans more time to cherish the sultry stares of Don Draper by splitting its final season in two.
TVLine reports that AMC is repeating the tactic they used for the mega-hit series "Breaking Bad" and splitting the last 14-episode season of "Mad Men" into two separate, 7-episode halves.
The first half will be titled "The Beginning," and will air this spring in 2014. The second half, titled "The End of an Era," will air in spring 2015.
"We plan to take advantage of this chance to have a more elaborate story told in two parts, which can resonate a little bit longer in the minds of our audience," said "Mad Men" creator Matthew Weiner in a statement. "The writers, cast and other artists welcome this unique manner of ending this unique experience."
"Breaking Bad," which is currently in the second half of its finale season, succeeded in gaining viewers by breaking the season in half.
"This approach has worked well for many programs across multiple networks, and, most recently for us with 'Breaking Bad,' which attracted nearly double the number of viewers to its second half premiere than had watched any previous episode," said AMC president Charlie Collier.
"We are determined to bring "Mad Men" a similar showcase. In an era where high-end content is savored and analyzed, and catch-up time is used well to drive back to live events, we believe this is the best way to release the now 14 episodes that remain of this iconic series," Collier continued.
Splitting up the series doesn't just allow fans to enjoy the show for a longer time. The tactic also gives the creators and actors a shot at another Emmy season. By ending the series in 2015, the series will have another year to be considered for Emmy Awards. According to USA Today, the series has won four Emmys for Outstanding Drama Series.
