Goodbye, Ziva. It’s going to be hard to see you go, tragic in fact, but we’ll survive. To every end there’s a new beginning. We understand. Sometimes it’s simply time to let go and move on. So goodbye, Ziva. We’ve accepted your departure. Now it’s time to look forward to what the future hold for the upcoming 11th season of “NCIS.”
Ziva’s farewell will make room for new agents, new characters to fall in love with and obsess over. And the new faces are already rolling in. Everything will be alright after all. According to TVLine, Emily Wickersham from “Sopranos” will be joining the cast as a potential successor to Cote de Pablo’s Ziva.
CBS offered Wickersham a three episode deal with the possibility of signing on as a series regular if all goes well. She’ll play a bright, educated, athletic, attractive, determined and somewhat partially awkward agent named Bishop. Her analytic brilliance and idealism will hopefully allure fans and benefit the agency.
However, Wickersham isn’t the only contender to take Ziva’s place. In a recent interview, Gary Glasberg said that it's going to take some time for the show finds a new full-time agent to fill the Ziva void. In the meantime, however, "NCIS" will "rotate some fun people" in and out of the agency.
"The first two episodes are all about Ziva's departure," Glasberg said. "And then in the third episode we introduce, for instance, a woman in her 50s who is a few days away from retirement and just needs to fill the desk time. She, in theory, knew Gibbs all the way back to the days of Mike Franks. So we're going to bring in people like that and have some fun with the different characters. And then, hopefully, when people are comfortable enough, one will walk in the be The One."
"NCIS" returns to CBS September 24.
