Arsenal will look to take down Marseille in a crucial opening game in the 2013-14 Champions League.
The English side is in what is being referred to as the "Group of Death." The Gunners will have to get through Borussia Dortmund, Napoli, and Marseille to have any hopes of a round of 16 berth. However, a number of experts do not pick them to qualify over the likes of Napoli and Dortmund. For that reason, Wednesday's tilt against the French side could mean the difference between a second place and third place finish.
Central to this success will be new acquisition Mesut Ozil. The German international and former Real Madrid star had a solid debut in Arsenal's 3-1 win over Sunderland and will be the main focus in Wednesday's tilt in Marseille.
Of course, the contest will not be easy. Arsenal will not have the safety of the Emirates Stadium and will need to find a way to acquire three huge points on the road.
Marseille is aware of the threat of Arsenal and is already prepared.
"Ozil has increased Arsenal's level in attack," said Marseille's Steve Mandanda about Arsenal, according to the Daily Mail. "His arrival has taken Arsenal to another level and he is perfect for the style of football and play that Wenger likes. I never expected Real Madrid to allow him to leave."
He also commented on the form of Olivier Giroud. The French forward already has four goals for Arsenal this season in four Premier League games.
"Also, Giroud is in a sensational moment of form. We have to stop them from scoring and creating danger but that will not be easy. They look a very strong team," he added.
Prediction: Arsenal is the favorite here despite being away from home. Expect a 2-1 Arsenal victory.
