Emily Thorne will focus on an unlikely character to help facilitate a vengeful takedown this upcoming season.
"Revenge's" Emily (Emily VanCamp) will be focusing on a holy man, played by James LeGros, to help her exact revenge. Showrunner Sunil Nayar told TVLine that the priest's involvement will raise some moral questions.
"There's an element to which the nature of him being a priest puts him up against the concept of what is good and what is right and what is the moral thing to do," Nayar said. "And that, in turn, let's us examine Emily Thorne's mandate in a way we haven't had a chance to do before."
A new photo from the upcoming season gives a huge hint as to what viewers will see from Emily in the third season, aside from her scandalous takedowns.
The photo shows Emily looking demure in a white wedding dress, but what she's holding portends an ominous future. Emily holds a bouquet of black roses in her hands, with trails of thorn-induced blood slowly trickling down her arm.
Fans who have seen the season three promo already know about Emily's wedding-gone-wrong. The opening scene of the season three promo shows a flash-foward to Emily's wedding, in which she is seen getting shot in the stomach then tumbling off a boat. Nayar told Entertainment Weekly that the foreboding wedding scene will drive the season.
"That's the big, huge event and huge mystery that we're building to in the first episode this season leading up to a grand December finale," Nayar said. "We're really excited for all of the little movements everyone makes toward each other and there are great parties building up to a wedding, and, of course, the wedding itself. It's all going to drive the first half of the season."
The season premiere will also show Emily having a steamy reunion with Jack (Nick Wechsler). However, just because their relationship is great in the physical department doesn't mean they are emotionally in sync.
Emily's reunion with Jack will not make her take her eyes of the ultimate prize: taking down the Graysons. Emily will kick the season off with a conniving plot against Conrad (Henry Czerny). The revenge plot will be one of Emily's most devious takedowns to date.
The season premiere of "Revenge" airs Sunday, September 29 on ABC.
