The defending Stanley Cup Champions will host their first preseason game of the 2013-14 season when the Detroit Red Wings visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday.

The Blackhawks had a short summer due to a deep playoff run and the subsequent celebrations that followed winning the championship. The Blackhawks started their 2013 postseason with a five-game series victory over the Minnesota Wild before being one game away from elimination against the Detroit Red Wings. The team bounced back from a 3-1 deficit in the series and won in a pivotal game seven. In the Western Conference finals, Chicago took down the Los Angeles Kings in five quick games before having to face the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup finals. Chicago took care of business in six games and lifted its second Stanley Cup since 2010.

The Red Wings faltered in the playoffs against Chicago but will likely be happy knowing that they will not be facing them this year. The team moved to the Eastern Conference to join a division that includes the Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens, Buffalo Sabres Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators, Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers.

This is Detroit's second preseason contest. The Red Wings previously took on the Pittsburgh Penguins and came away victorious in a 4-1 win that included goals from Tomas Tatar, Adam Almquist and Pavel Datsyuk; Almquist scored two power play goals in the game.

The Wings have six more preseason matches after Tuesday's contest. Chicago only has five left.

Start Time: 7 p.m. EST
