A year ago Bayern Munich ended its jinx in the Champions League by winning the competition against rival Borussia Dortmund. The German club begins its title defense on Tuesday against Russian club CSKA Moscow.
The team's new manager Pep Guardiola has created a bit of instability in the club throughout his young tenure by fielding different lineups in every single match this season. However, the team has been dominant in the early part of the season and even pulled off a huge UEFA European Super Cup win against Chelsea.
Despite the success, Director of Sport Matthias Sammer is unhappy with what he has seen from the team and is demanding a better effort on Tuesday.
"We need more emotion," he said, according to ESPN. "We were lethargic at times and that's not enough for the level we want to be at."
Bayern's Jerome Boateng recently responded to Sammer's comments and noted that the director would remain quiet if nothing needed to be addressed.
"Matthias doesn't say things if there's nothing to be said," Boateng said, according to ESPN. "I think the team will take it on board. We now have a busy program of games and we've got to put our foot down."
Munich is expected to win Group D with relative ease as they will only have to compete with Manchester City, Viktoria Plzen and CSKA Moscow, none of which have had great success in the competition in recent years.
Prediction: Bayern Munich is home and hungry and should win this game 3-0.
