The Chinese carrier made the announcement on its official Weibo blog.
Bloomberg, however, noted that China Unicom has not revealed pricing plans for the iPhone 5c or iPhone 5s.
The two new iPhones are confirmed for China Unicom and fellow carrier China Telecom. China Telecom has issued a monthly plan for the iPhone 5s starting at 289 yuan, or $47 when converted to the U.S. dollar, which is 15 percent less than the price offered for the iPhone 5 despite sharing the same plan.
According to China Telecom, a down payment is needed for the 16GB iPhone 5c of 4,488 yuan, or $733, while the iPhone 5s requires 5,288 yuan, or $864. The iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s are free for buyers on a two-year contract with a minimum monthly plan of 329 yuan for the iPhone 5c or 389 yuan for the iPhone 5s.
In regards to the largest-mobile carrier, Latinos Post reported about a potential deal between Apple and China Mobile. With over 700 million subscribers, the Wall Street Journal noted the deal might be aimed to help the rollout of the iPhone 5c. Apple, however, has not issued an official statement about a potential deal.
The iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c release date in China is set for Sept. 20. The release date also includes Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, the United Kingdom and U.S.
The new Apple smartphones feature the same specifications as the original iPhone 5, such as the 4-inch Retina Display with 1,136x640 resolution, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, 1080p HD video recording camera, to name a few.
For the iPhone 5c, a notable change is the addition of color options. The new smartphone will be offered in blue, green, pink, white and yellow variants.
The iPhone 5s' differences are largely the fingerprint sensor and the A7 processor chip with 64-bit architecture, which plays a critical role with the Touch ID.
