Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been a rumored choice to join the cast of the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII." However, the actor does not believe that he will be in the upcoming movie.
The actor recently told reporters that he did not believe the rumors circulating on the Internet about his involvement in the franchise.
"Look, I've worked with [director] J.J. [Abrams]," said Rhys Meyers, according to Entertainment Weekly. "But I don't believe rumors."
The rumors were first started by Latino Review back in May.
The actor is best known for his work on the television series "The Tudors" and worked with Abrams on "Mission Impossible 3." However, Rhys Meyers is now particularly known for his work in big budget film productions. And his comments indicate that this lack of involvement may be the product of his own design.
"To be honest, I don't watch many movies," he said. "There's very, very few films that I will go to the cinema to see. I'll go to the cinema to see anything by Paul Thomas Anderson or Nicholas Winding Refn or Mike Leigh or Steven Spielberg. But I don't go to the cinema very often. I read a lot."
Rhys Meyers did note that he prefers to play the villain instead of the hero.
"I play bad guys because I look like one," he said. "There's something in my physicality that's quite intense and lends me to being feral. I mean, I'd love to be this lovely relaxed guy doing rom-coms, but I just don't get those types of offers. I suppose I'm forever sort of the antihero."
If this holds up, then it would be likely that he takes on the role of an evil Sith Lord or a fallen jedi.
Little has been revealed about the film, but it is widely believed that the script is finished or close to being finished, and that casting is underway. Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford are rumored to return to their original trilogy roles, but there has been no confirmation.
"Star Wars: Episode VII" is slated for a late 2015 release, but there has been no confirmation on the date or season that the film will be released in.
