Whovians, start counting down to November.
The new poster for "Doctor Who" hints at what will take place during the epic 50th anniversary special, which will air this November. The poster for the landmark episode features the past three regenerations of the Doctor: Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt.
According to Mashable, the 75-minute episode will be titled "The Day of the Doctor," and will feature the unprecedented cicumstance in which the present and past Time Lords appear together. Hurt's character will be an older, darker version of the Doctor.
Matt Smith is current Doctor 11, and David Tennant is number 10.
"'The Day of the Doctor' is nearly here," Smith said in a statement. "Hope you all enjoy. There's lots more coming your way, as the countdown to the 50th begins now."
The episode will be one of the last ones featuring Matt Smith as the Doctor. It was recently announced that Peter Capaldi will be succeeding Smith as the 12th regeneration of the Time Lord. Capaldi is a 55-year-old Scottish actor known for playing the acerbic Malcolm Tucker in BBC political comedy "The Thick Of It" and in the film "In the Loop."
Co-stars Jenna Coleman and Billie Piper will also make appearances in the anniversary episode. Tennant, who is starring in the BBC America crime drama "Broadchurch," shared his feelings about filming the episode with Entertainment Weekly.
"I suppose you'd expect me to say we're new best friends and I love him like a brother," Tennant said. "But that is sort of how it was. I had a fantastic time and that wouldn't necessarily have been the case. I'm coming back onto a show that's effectively somebody else's show and used to be mine and that's potentially quite a weird situation to be in. Going back to something I knew so well and had such fun memories of might have backfired. It's a quite rare set of circumstances: Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig don't get to play James Bond next to each other. But actually it felt familiar enough that it was like coming home and working with Matt proved to be a real joy.
"I hope I'm speaking for him when I say we really enjoyed bouncing of each other and playing sort of two aspects of the same character," Tennant continued. "It was everything that I hoped it might be and nothing that I feared it could be."
The 50th anniversary special will be followed by an extraordinarily special Christmas episode in which Peter Capaldi will be introduced as the tweflth incarnation of the Doctor. Capaldi is expected to bring his trademark sarcasm and quirkiness to the role.
Tune in to "The Day of the Doctor" on November 23 on BBC America.
