Tyree Lincoln Smith, the so-called "Connecticut Cannibal," will be confined to a mental institution for 60 years, determined a Bridgeport court.
According to La Opinión, the Florida man, who confessed to murdering a homeless Hispanic man and then eating part of his corpse, was declared not guilty by reason of insanity, declared three judges in Connecticut.
Said ruling ordered the freedom of Tyree Smith; however, the judge of the Superior Court, John Kavanewsky, considered Monday, Sept. 9, that if set free, Smith would be a danger to himself and others, revealed The Connecticut Post, quoted by La Opinión.
Judge Kavanewsky's worry was echoed by the state prosecutor, John Smriga, who expressed worry because Smith would murder and eat more victims if set free.
It's worth remembering that, in December 2011, homeless man, Ángel González, was found lifeless in the third floor of an abandoned Bridgeport house. A coroner then determined the cause of death to be a strong blow to the head and described the case as a homicide, which prompted an investigation that resulted to the incarceration of Tyree Lincoln Smith, 35 years old.
According to a report by Zona Franca, a report on the investigation pointed out that Smith's cousin, Nicole Rabb, declared that the accused had visited her house in mid-December and told her he wanted "blood in his hands."
The woman's testimony indicates that Smith spent the night sleeping outside an abandoned building, when a Hispanic man invited him to sleep under a roof in the building. The 35-year-old man then attacked the man with a hatchet and proceeded to eat an eye and part of the brain in a nearby cemetery.
