It’s time to say goodbye. Fans have been delaying the inevitable, unwilling to accept the departure Cote de Pablo’s Ziva from “NCIS,” but now the season premiere is upon us. There’s nowhere to run. Fortunately, executive producer Gary Glasberg has taken the millions of broken hearts into consideration and promises an “amazing resolution” for the beloved Ziva that will go down in television history as one of the sweetest and most heart-wrenching farewells of all time.
In an open letter to fans, Glasberg agreed with fans that Ziva’s departure was shocking, but put the tragedy into perspective. “Change happens. Writers move on. Actors move on. Life, for some, interferes with work and then we rise to the occasion and adapt,” he said. “Very often extraordinary creativity comes out of adjustment. And so we find ourselves not dwelling on the past, but eager to guide you into the future of ‘NCIS.’”
Ziva’s farewell will stretch over two episodes, beginning with the Season 11 premiere. “The amazing resolution you’re going to see is pretty damn heart-wrenching and we’re incredibly proud of it,” Glasberg said. “Prepare yourselves for a moment in television history. Images that will end up in archives. I couldn’t be happier with how my ‘NCIS’ family stepped up and did some of the most emotional work we’ve ever done.”
“NCIS” actors also took the time to reflect on their past experiences with Pablo, revealing that they too will miss her dearly. “I remember being with Cote at the end of Season 5, walking through the Mojave desert and into a diner and seeing Lauren Holly’s wax dummy in a pool of blood,” said Michael Weatherly, recalling the moment after Jenny Shepard had been killed by a Russian hitman. “I thought, ‘This is crazy! I didn’t see this coming at all. I mean, she’s the director of NCIS!”
As for the September 24 premiere on CBS, Weatherly says, “I can’t give away all the pinpoints, but I found the first two episodes immensely satisfying.”
