In Colorado, a 19-year-old teen, Premila Lal, died on September 6 as a consequence of a prank gone wrong.Lal was killed when she tried to scare her friend who reacted by shooting her.
According to CNN, the young woman leapt from a closet to prank one of her friends, surprising the young man, who immediately grabbed a firearm and shot her.
Longmont authorities in Colorado reported that the teenager arrived approximately at 8 p.m. at the house where she used to live with her family, which was being looked after by her friend Nerreck Galley during the moving process and sale of furniture. CNN reported that Galley, 21, arrived at the house where the victim's cousin, 12, and brother, 15, were also in.
According to CNN, the teenager's father, Praveen Lal told local media that she had entered the house without her friend realizing it. The Chief of the Longmont Police Department said, "All witnesses have made consistent statements," agreeing that there was a prank and a gunshot.
One of the victim's neighbors told the CNN affiliate, KVDR, that she had seen a group of people leave the house running and screaming. Authorities accused Galley of reckless endangerment, minor assault and providing a firearm to a minor since Lal's brother had access to the gun.
CNN also reported that so far the family's friend has not been accused of murder and has not given statements regarding the event. Authorities don't believe that there were any drugs or alcohol involved in the incident, and through a press release said that the teenager's murder "was unintentional and extremely tragic."
