There are certain images that come to mind when discussing “Game of Thrones.” The most obvious are the show’s trademarks, such as dragons, medieval warfare, incest, all the best things in life basically. But it’s the subtleties that drive the show forward. It’s the incredible casting, the inter family drama, conniving kings and ruthless rogue warriors that bring the show to life. Although they may not be front and center, playing sub characters detached from pivotal moments, they are still a construct of the show.
Although many characters come and go, especially in a series that caters to such a wide variety, each one is worth remembering. The show hosts characters of all walks of life, and as most recent news indicates, Season 4 will feature several influential faces from the music industry.
According to Entertainment Weekly, “Game of Thrones” landed Icelandic pop band Sigur Ros to appear in the upcoming season. The group is currently shooting in Croatia, but details surrounding their appearance remain sparse. One would assume the would play a song, but anything is possible.
Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are longtime fans of Sigur Ros and would often listen to their music while shooting in Iceland, where a large chunk of production on “Thrones” is done.
As Season 4 production rolls out, Benioff and Weiss also took the time to talk about violence on the show and how it plays an integral role in its success. “I think we’ve made mistakes on that front,” Benioff said during a recent interview. “There are moments that I think the violence, or not so much the violence, but the gore is pushed too far. It can start to become ridiculous, and something that might work in ‘Evil Dead 2’ isn’t going to work in a show with this tone. For instance, there’s a scene in the first season where a man is killed - a lance goes through his throat - and you see him gurgling and dying on the ground, and looking back on that, I think we have seven seconds of him with blood coming [out].”
“Game of Thrones” returns to HBO in the spring.
