Brazil vs. Portugal Recap, Video Highlights: Is Brazil World Cup Favorite After Terrific 3-1 Win?

Brazil put on a show for sports fans at the Gillette Stadium in Boston by taking down Portugal 3-1 in an international friendly.

The Samba Kings started with a lineup that could very well be the one that kicks off the World Cup next summer. Julio Cesar started in goal with Maicon, Thiago Silva, David Luiz and Maxwell as the defenders. David Luiz Gustavo, Paulinho and Ramires comprised the midfield, while Bernard, Jo and Neymar were placed up top.

Portugal fielded a lineup that featured Rui Patrício in goal alongside Joao Pereira, Pepe, Bruno Alves, Fabio Coentrao, Veloso, Joao Moutinho, Raul Meireles, Vieirinha, Nani and Nelson Oliveira. Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored three goals in Portugal's 4-2 win over Northern Ireland, did not make the trip to Boston for the friendly.

The Brazilians were coming off a 6-0 win against Australia, but many believed that the reigning Confederations Cup champs needed to prove their worth against a stronger opponent. Despite not having Ronaldo, many believed that Portugal would be that kind of opponent. They certainly did not disappoint; the team dominated play early on. Mereilles hit the post just 12 minutes in before actually scoring six minutes later thanks to a defensive miscue from Thiago Silva and Maicon in the Brazilian zone.

However, the lead did not last long. Brazil tied the game at the 24 minute mark. Neymar's corner kick cross was met by Silva who tied the game up at one. Brazil started to find its rhythm shortly after and put a tremendous amount of pressure on Portugal. At the 34^th minute, Neymar scored on a spectacular solo effort. He charged at the Portuguese defense from the left and dribbled right through them before slotting the ball in from the center to give Brazil a 2-1 lead.

The Brazilians continued their tremendous performance in the second half when Jo scored at the 49 minute mark off a Maxwell pass that was set up by Neymar.

The match ultimately proved a few things. The Brazilians are no longer daunted by any opponent and can win any game. Neymar is a bonafide superstar that will one day be the best player in the world. More importantly, the Portuguese may not be ready to contend for the World Cup, even with Cristiano Ronaldo leading the way.
