Giraffe Jang-Soon gave birth to its 18th calf on Sunday, Sept 8, in Samsung Everland safari park in South Korea, setting a record for a giraffe raised in captivity with more calves worldwide.
According to information published by Metro newspaper, the 27-year-old giraffe was raised in captivity and, this Sunday, gave birth for the 18th time at the zoo located in Yongin in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. The Samsung Everland authorities seek to obtain the record approved by the International Species Information System.
Quoted by Publimetro, the Conservation of Giraffes Foundation estimated that there are less than 5,000 reticulated giraffes in the world. With a life expectancy of 25 years, the species bred in captivity have increased their longevity.
