On September 8, Latinos of Mexican origin living in Los Angeles, held the Annual Parade of Mexican Independence Day in East Los Angeles, a tradition that in 2013 became 67 years old.
According to EFE, the parade was held in one of the cities with the largest Hispanic population in the United States. It was attended by the General Consul of Mexico in Los Angeles, Carlos Sada, the president of the Mexican Civic Patriotic Committee (CMCP), Enedino Aguirre, and the national director of the Paisano Program, Gabriela Acoltzi.
In an interview with EFE, Jazmine López, who was crowned Miss Mexican National Holidays 2013-2014 by the CMCP, said she was felt very proud of representing Mexico in Los Angeles and Mexicans in the east side of the city.
The parade, one of the oldest celebrations of the Hispanic population in the United States, raised awareness on the subject of Immigration Reform with the slogan "For an Immigration Reform and a Better Future," a phrase that could be read along the parade's route.
The celebration was completed with the presence of singer David Zepeda and actresses Altaír Jarabo and Mayrin Villanueva.
