The United States and Mexico will play a pivotal match on Tuesday in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
For Mexico, it is do or die as they currently sit in fourth in the CONCACAF and could be in danger of missing out on the tournament all together with a loss or draw on Tuesday. With only eight points in seven games, the team is two behind Honduras for the third spot and only one ahead of Panama with three games to go. The team recently fired Coach Jose de la Torre after a 2-1 loss against Honduras at home; Luis Fernando Tena was called in to be his replacement.
The situation is not as serious for the Americans but they have problems of their own. Top players such as Matt Besler, Jozy Altidore and Geoff Cameron will be left out of the match after acquiring yellow cards in the 3-1 loss against Costa Rica. Club Tijuana's Joe Corona, Houston Dynamo midfielder Brad Davis, San Jose Earthquakes defenseman Clarence Goodson and Tigres midfielder Jose Torres were called in to help fill in the holes. The Americans can clinch a spot in the World Cup tournament next summer with a win against Mexico; a loss to the Mexicans would also clinch a spot for Costa Rica next summer.
Prediction: The Americans are home and playing a Mexican side that has no confidence. However, the two sides will likely battle to a 1-1 or 0-0 stand still as they did the last time they met in qualifiers.
