Colombia will look to clinch a spot in the World Cup finals when it takes on Uruguay in Montevideo on Tuesday.
The top four sides in the CONMEBOL earn automatic berths next summer while fifth place must take on the playoff winner from the AFC Confederation.
Colombia currently sits in a tie with Argentina for first place while Uruguay is in a battle to get out of the fifth place spot. The Colombians have 26 points and only need a draw out of this fixture to secure passage to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. They are tied with Chile for most wins in the tournament (eight) and have conceded a Confederation-low seven goals throughout the qualifiers.
The situation is far more hazardous for Uruguay. The team has struggled in qualifiers in the last year and even went six games without a single victory. The team started to turn its fortunes around with a convincing 1-0 win over Venezuela in June. During the July Confederations Cup, the team finished fourth but pulled off two big wins over Nigeria and Tahiti. That seemed to boost the nation's confidence heading into Friday's qualifier against Peru where Uruguay managed a solid 2-1 win over Peru. The team currently sits in fifth place with 19 points; fourth place Ecuador only has 21 points and could fall to fifth if Uruguay pulls off a win and Ecuador loses in La Paz, Bolivia.
Colombia took down Uruguay 4-0 in their meeting a year ago in Barranquilla. However, Uruguay has a record of 3-3-0 at home during qualifiers.
Prediction: Expect the Colombians to play a safe match in hopes of pulling off a draw. The end result will be a 0-0 game.
