In the city of Guadalajara, a group of 700 mariachis broke the Guinness Record for playing at the same time for over five minutes, according to El Universal.
Francisco Beckmann González, president of the Board of Directors of the Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce, explained that the Guinness Record was beaten thanks to the large group of mariachis playing in unison for more than five consecutive minutes, El Universal reported. The event took place within the celebrations of the 20th International Mariachi and Charreria Gathering in Guadalajara.
With this achievement, Mexico obtained its fifth consecutive Guinness Record in the international event, noted Beckmann. The first was for the largest number of mariachis, the second for the biggest number of charros flowering the lasso, the third was for the largest folkloric dance in the world and the fourth was for the biggest number of escaramuzas while performing three displays.
According to LaRed21, the record previously belonged to the city of Pasadena in the United States which managed to gather 566 mariachis. LaRed21 added that not all of the musicians of the previous Record were Mexican, since Japanese musicians among others also participated and played songs like "Guadalajara" and "Fiesta en Jalisco."
Each chord of the songs played were heard in unison for over five minutes to beat the world record, played by musicians from Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Canada, United States and Japan, and according to the organizers, "consolidated the brotherhood of the peoples through music, an universal good," LaRed21 reported
The International Mariachi and Charreria Gathering, honors Spain this year with close to 300 activities, including charreria championships, a Spanish horse exhibition and concerts by Alejandro Sanz and Alejandro Fernández.
