One of the most famous and awaited shows of the year has a confirmed artist: Grammy winner Bruno Mars. The "Locked Out of Heaven" crooner will sing during half-time of Super Bowl XLVIII.
According to CNN, the announcement came from FOX NFL Sunday, where the singer, nominated for a Grammy 14 times, confirmed the news.
The young Hawaii-born singer, known for hits such as "Treasure," joins the list of artists that have participated in the half-time show of the Super Bowl, a list that includes singers like Madonna, The Who, Bruce Springsteen, the E Street Band, Tom Petty, Prince, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, U2 and more recently, Beyoncé with her acclaimed show this year.
Such anticipation is not surprising, as the half-time show has become of the most watched events of the year in recent times. "The Super Bowl's half-time is the most-watched music event of the year," an NFL statement pointed out. According to the NFL, "Over 110.5 million people in the United States watched the show last year."
At 27 years old, Bruno Mars has sold 115 million records around the world, and is considered one of the biggest stars on the pop scene. His latest musical production, "Unorthodox Jukebox," has gone platinum because of its high number of sales, reported Univisión.
Super Bowl XLVIII will be take place on February 2, 2014 at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and has generated intense media attention with almost five months of anticipation.
