Mexican actor Diego Luna received an award on September 6 at the Hispanic Heritage Awards, which took place in the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington. Luna dedicated the award to undocumented immigrants in the United States.

According to El Universal, Luna received the Inspira Award for his long career and contributions to society at the 26th annual award show for the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, which acknowledges and honors Latino culture.

Luna said, "I want to dedicate this award to all of those who today are interested in this country recognizing and welcoming all the undocumented immigrants that built this country with their labor, have fed its people and have attended the most basic needs of this nation."

The Mexican producer and actor also dedicated it to people who are investing in the development of society, "those who build bridges instead of walls".

He added, "I want to dedicate this award to those who believe that violence in Latin America due to drug trafficking concerns us all, and the addiction problem this country has is also everyone's problem".

El Universal also reported that Mexican band Los Tigres del Norte and actress Eva Longoria were also awarded. El Informador reported that Eva Longoria was given the Community Service Award, Los Tigres del Norte the Legend Award and Mexican singer Lucero received the Visión Award.

According to El Informador, the President of the Hispanic Heritage Awards Foundation (HHAF) José Antonio Tijerino said, "The Hispanic community has made significant contributions to the history of America and the world, and it's an honor to be part of an organization established by the White House to recognize that impact."

The Hispanic Heritage Awards were established in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan with the purpose of celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, and Latino leaders have been awarded in various categories since then.
