Greece will look to jump into first place when it takes on Liechtenstein in Friday's World Cup Qualifiers.
The Ethniki currently sit in second place in Group G with 13 points; first place Bosnia and Herzegovina leads the way with 16 points. The top team in each UEFA group will move on the World Cup Finals next summer. The second place team will be placed into a lottery where it will be drawn into a matchup with another second place team. Both sides will compete in a two-legged showdown to determine the participant in the competition next summer.
Slovakia and Bosnia and Herzegovina will be facing off on Friday; Slovakia is the third place team and still has hope for making a run at one of the two spots. A draw is possible in this game and a Greek victory would ensure that the Ethniki would be one point behind Bosnia and Herzegovina for first place.
Greece started its tournament with a 2-1 win in Latvia. The team then took down Lithuania 2-0 in its second game, but drew 0-0 against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the third match of qualifying. Greece then took a 1-0 win in Slovakia but lost 3-1 in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Fortunately the team defeated Lithuania 1-0 in its most recent game.
This is the first of Greece's two games against Liechtenstein. Liechtenstein has two points in six games and cannot qualify directly. A loss or draw against Greece will eliminate Liechtenstein from the World Cup Qualifiers.
Prediction: Greece manages a 3-0 win.
