Despite the fading summer sun, the return of one of television’s best comedy sitcoms reminds us that it’s always sunny in Philadelphia. The show, you guessed it, “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” returned Wednesday night on the new FXX channel for its ninth season, and it hasn’t missed a beat. It picks up with the same wacky antics, empty arguments and misguided collusion that fans have come to love. In the premiere episode, the overpowering narcissism and directs the gang down a familiar path to destruction.
During the show’s launch party on Tuesday, one of the show’s stars, Charlie Day, took the time to talk about the upcoming season, reminding fans that there’s more of what they love, but not without a few new surprises along the way.
“I can’t wait for them to see ‘The Gang Broke Dee,’ which is a pretty funny episode,” said Day, who plays a fictional Charlie Kelly on the show. “You get to see her do stand up again.” In addition to hyping up the excitement for last night’s premiere, he also hinted at a “high concept” episode that features an animated segment. In the past few season’s, the writers have explored the show’s versatility with two part episodes, flashbacks and alternate realities, a trend that’s synonymous with the animated clip.
As for Charlie’s unsuccessful yet not unnoticed love for the Waitress, “He’s not getting anywhere fast, but there’s a couple great moments this year,” hinting that the animated sequence portrays a pseudo reality where a relationship fosters. However, “The reality of the two of them working out, I’m not sure about that,” he said. Check out a video of the interview here.
