Former NFL player Aaron Hernandez requested a delay for a lawsuit procedure in Florida, until the investigation over the homicide case against him is resolved.
According to Telemundo, Hernandez's lawyers officially requested the delay on Tuesday, September 3 in federal court. The former New England Patriots player was accused last June of the first degree murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player.
Univisión reported that Hernandez is accused along with two other men for allegedly taking Lloyd to an industrial park in North Attleboro, Mass., shooting him several times and abandoning his body.
Hernandez pleaded not guilty to this accusation and is currently awaiting his trial. However, the former player also faces a lawsuit filed in Florida while he awaits trail in Massachusetts.
The former athlete's legal defense has pointed out that allowing the lawsuit to keep its course while he is under trial the murder of 27-year-old athlete would be unfair, Telemundo reported.
The lawsuit filed in Florida was brought on by Alexander Bradley, a 30-year-old man who accuses the former professional player of shooting him in the face after arguing in a nightclub last February.
According to Univision, Alexander Bradley is seeking economic compensation of at least $100,000 for damages and injuries.
Hernandez's contract with the Patriots was cancelled a few hours after the charges of homicide against him were announced. He remains under arrest, without right to bail, while a jury determines his legal situation.
