The Mother Monster will be taking over "Saturday Night Live" for the third time this fall. TVLine reports that Lady Gaga will be coming back to the late night comedy sketch show after her last appearance on the show two years ago. Although it is not yet confirmed, it is also rumored that she will be doing double duty on the show for the first time as both a host and a musical guest.

An NBC representative stated that "SNL's" fall host schedule is still being finalized.

Gaga previously appeared on the show as a musical guest in 2009 and 2011. She also appeared in many skits alongside hosts Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake. One of her most memorable skits was a "Deep House Dish" sketch that put Gaga up against one of her biggest idols and inspirations, Madonna.

Gaga is making the media rounds to promote her newest album, "ARTPOP," which is due out November 11. Her newest single, "Applause," is currently at No.4 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. "ARTPOP" follows her successful 2011 album "Born This Way."

Gaga seemed somewhat desperate as of late to bring "Applause" up the charts, despite its good showing. Gaga implored fans personally via Twitter to buy multiple copies of the single and artificially increase its video views, which some, like an editor at Billboard, found to be in bad taste. Regardless, "Applause" is definitely doing well, as is Gaga's overall comeback.

Gaga stunned at the MTV Video Music Awards with her performance of the hit single. She opened the show in a white, cubist-style nun's outfit, and made a number of costume changes throughout the performance that ranged from a black leotard and leggings to a barely-there seashell bikini and thong. Gaga's VMA performance helped push up the number of downloads of her new single. Yet, while Gaga usually dominates the media the day after the VMAs, her performance was overshadowed by Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke's unexpectedly scandalous performance.

Gaga's other singles off her forthcoming album have more of an edgier rock feel. According to Entertainment Weekly, Gaga performed other new songs off her upcoming album at the Itunes Festival in London on September 1. Two of the songs she performed are called  "Swine" and "Manicure," which sound infinitely more rock 'n' roll than her most recent hit.

The beat for "Swine" seems a lot heavier than the pop star's usual fare, and is refreshingly more rock than the other songs on the album. Although it does seem to have a synthesized, clubby back beat, its heavier rhythm coupled with Gaga screaming out lyrics gives it a definitive rock feel.

"Manicure" has as a Joan Jett-esque feel that sounds like it was inspired by 1970s female rock anthems. Gaga may soon release one, if not both, of these new, harder-edged songs.

Check out Gaga on "Saturday Night Live's" 39th season, which will debut on September 28 on NBC.
